Events, Help, Fundraisers & Benefits: Contract Discussions continue with the City. The next official session is Tuesday, April 27th at the Office of Labor Relations. Please insure you review Special 65-2 #21, Taylor Law & PERB, dated April 8th, which gives a brief history and summary of how it works. This should be helpful explaining the process, in simple terms, if it become necessary for the UFA to pursue that path. Back To Top Delegates Committee for Political Action In accordance with the UFA Constitution, Delegates are required to choose one member from each Battalion to serve as their Battalion Political Action Committee Representative. It is critical that this committee is prepared for upcoming UFA political activities. Each Battalion Delegate needs to submit your Battalion's representative to VP & Legislative Chairman Jim Slevin at the Atlantic City Seminar. Members who are interested should contact your Delegate. You need not be a Delegate. Back To Top CFR-D Segment-One 2nd Due Engines: Fax All Tickets!!! All firefighters must fax every ticket whenever a company is assigned to an EMS CFR-D run to a 2nd due box location (whether or not patient care was performed). This is necessary to help document increased workload and productivity, and to evaluate any possible adverse impact on other fire or emergency incidents. Fax to 212-683-4359, ATTN: Joe Miccio, Recording Secretary. Back To Top Cornell Survey/Study of FDNY Members to Present to Delegates The survey results, which were published last week, will be presented to all Delegates at the UFA Delegate Educational Seminar next week by Professor Sam Bacharach of Cornell University's School of Industrial Labor Relations. Recent media reports on TV, radio and newspapers regarding the survey results have been very supportive of NYC Firefighters and many of the problems our members have been facing. It certainly shed more light on the circumstances, and more fairly compared us to the general population. The press also covered issues where our members reported the Department as needing significant improvement on. Most notably, we have been keenly reported as "self managing, tightly coordinated teams that enable them to do their jobs more quickly and effectively than other work groups" The UFA thanks all members who participated in the survey, which helped document many issues where the department can improve and where our members need help from the Dept. Back To Top Random Drug Testing The Department has been advancing its plans with the objective of implementing random drug testing. But exactly how those tests are administered must be negotiated with unions, which has been ongoing. It is the UFA's position that random testing must equally include all staff chiefs, Medical Officers and other officers assigned to headquarters, including the Chief of Department. The UFA is working to insure that the Dept will not have the ability to pick and choose, and that all uniformed members have an equal chance of being selected. The UFA believes that the Dept and public safety would be better served if funding for this program is directed towards reopening closed firehouses. As reported in the Daily News today, “FDNY union reps blasted the plan as a misguided use of funds at a time when the city has lost six engine companies to budget cuts in the past year.†It also noted, “Many other city agencies - including police, sanitation, transportation and parks departments - already subject their employees to random drug tests.†Back To Top Compensation Accrual Fund (Annuity) Manager Name Change CIGNA Retirement & Investment Services, which is the administrative agent for the UFA Compensation Accrual Fund investments of your annuity deposits, is now known as Prudential Retirement. Back To Top Security Benefits Fund (SBF) Email Addresses The new and updated SBF Book and Delegate Manual Chapter has been completed and will be distributed at the Delegate Educational Seminar next week.
