The Department has publicly announced that effective September 7th, it intends to strictly enforce all Department Regulations. Recently a chauffeur was disciplined as a result of an accident. All chauffeurs should be aware of and follow all Department Regulations: Regs, Chapter 11, Fire & Emergency Operations: - Sect. 11.1.17, F: "Use one-way streets against traffic only when absolutely necessary in responding to alarms," and "apparatus shall proceed only when safe response is assured."
- Sect. 11.1.17, C: "When responding to an alarm, come to a full and complete stop before entering an intersection against every red light, stop sign and yield sign"
- Sect. 11.1.17, B: "Maintain a low rate of speed when traveling through congested areas"
- Sect. 11.1.17, D: "Maintain a low rate of speed when approaching street intersections or turning corners. When turning corners no apparatus should be driven in excess of 15 mph."
- Sect. 11.1.17, I: "Parkways or expressways shall not be used by apparatus responding to alarms, except in emergency when their use would facilitate response."
- Sect. 11.1.11: "to avoid injury…Donning of boots and fire clothing should be done prior to boarding apparatus."
Regs, Chapter 3, Engine Company Operations, Sect. 3.3: - the 2nd due engine company shall make no extraordinary effort to arrive 1st due, unless it is obvious 1st due engine company will be seriously delayed."
Regs, Chapter 11, also notes: - that members "maintain safe control of the apparatus at all times", and "members operating the apparatus shall at all times drive with due regard for the safety of all persons using the streets." Lastly, Regs, Chapter 11, Sect.11.1.14, also makes clear, "Officers shall hold chauffeurs responsible for the operation of the apparatus".
