The complete text of the proposed amendments is contained in 65-2 #19 of 2005, which is attached to this 65-2 and meeting notice. The Constitution Committee, which is composed of three members from each borough, will present its recommendations, and the President will report the Executive Board's vote and recommendations. Back To Top 2005 Delegate Educational Seminar The UFA does not handle room reservations. Reservations must be made directly with the Taj Mahal. Delegates who have not mailed their special hotel reservation envelope directly back to the Taj Mahal will not be assigned a room by the Taj. In order to verify it was received, you must call the Taj at 800-825-8888 for your confirmation number. You can also make any changes 24/7 directly at this number. If you do not have a confirmation number, you do not have a room. All Delegates were sent repeated notices for seminar and hotel registration. Please make sure you do not miss the deadline in the latest notice. Contact the Recording Secretary's Office if you have any questions. Back To Top Cameras on Rigs: Drive Safely! On March 30th, the Department sent its first official conformation to the UFA that it has installed Drive Cam cameras in four pieces of apparatus: Ladder 9, Ladder 81, Engine 226 and Engine 315. The Dept claims "this will be a 90-day pilot, which will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of a video cam as a training tool as well as an accident investigation tool." The UFA is concerned that the primary purpose is to punish firefighters for aggressively doing their jobs protecting the lives and property of the people of NYC. It is especially critical that affected members drive safely to the letter of the law in strict accordance with Dept Policy. Do not proceed through any intersection unless you are absolutely sure it is safe. You can't put the fire out or resuscitate a victim if you don't get there! Back To Top Pension Class Held at UFA UFA Treasurer Robert Straub has scheduled a special class with the UFA Pension Consultant, Lou Sforza, on April 20th at the UFA offices (204 East 23rd Street) 7:00PM on the 4th Floor. This session will address issues not only relating to the retirement process but also matters that maybe helpful in giving you a better understanding of the pension system and benefits that you maybe entitled to. This seminar should not be confused with the monthly seminar that is given by the Department. Space is limited. Contact Debbie Lynch at the UFA Offices (212) 683-4832 to reserve a spot. Back To Top Details Off the Chart for Training he Department has not been compliant with our grievance decision and court order preventing the Department from detailing members off the chart for training without first negotiating with the UFA. Our next grievance hearing for OT payments on this matter is scheduled for June 23rd. The UFA recommends that members who are ordered off the chart for training to make an entry in red in the Company Journal stating: "I have been ordered to take training classes for (ENTER SUBJECT) and assigned off my contractually mandated Administrative Code workchart from (ENTER START & END DATE)." At this time, a journal entry will be sufficient documentation for the OT Grievance. The UFA currently has enough TPR and TPR Denial evidence to document its case against the Dept for refusing to comply with the Arbitrator's Award. It will no longer be necessary to ask your officers to place a TPR mark. Back To Top Medical Leave Lifts Recording Secretary Joe Miccio and UFA Labor Council met with arbitrator Al Vianni & the City last week regarding this involuntary detailing case. We are submitting an offer of proof in attempt to limit he length of the hearings. After the City responds a conference will be scheduled and hearing dates will be set thereafter. This information will be announced as soon as the dates are known. The UFA will be presenting a comprehensive package of evidence for this case to the arbitrator with the objective of demonstrating how the City violated the SMLP agreement, PA/ID 2-95 (Chronic Absence) and PA/ID 3-96 (SMLP). Each member affected by this case will be sent a personal letter this week from the Recording Secretary's Office regarding this latest information.
