On Wednesday, June 15th, Governor Pataki will be signing the WTC Presumptive Disability Bill. This is a tremendous victory for the UFA. The Bill signing will take place at 10 am at Battery Place and Broadway, near Bowling Green entrance to the park. The UFA would like to turn out as many members as possible to show our appreciation to the Governor. It has been a long struggle to get this bill signed and due to the efforts of your Executive Board up in Albany, this bill has finally become a reality. This new pension law will go a long way in protecting our members that were active between 9/11/01 and 9/10/02 and subsequently become disabled in the future. For the first time, retired members that were not disabled when they retired, will now be able to qualify for a disability pension if they worked at the WTC and were active firefighters between 9/11/01 and 9/10/02. Further details on the law will be provided at a future date.
We need to turn out hundreds of firefighters in Class A uniforms to show our thanks and appreciation to the Governor. Members will need to assemble at 10 am at Battery Place and Broadway near Bowling Green entrance to the park. A small reception will be held following the bill signing ceremony. Members in the firehouse should contact the off duty members about this ceremony.
