Remembering Jim Curran

We are all deeply saddened by the recent passing of NY Firefighters Burn Center President and retired FDNY Lieutenant Jim Curran. For more than 33 years Jim protected the people of this City from the ravages of fire and as President of the NY Firefighters Burn Center Foundation for 22 years, he was able to further help the victims of fire. He continued to serve as President well after his retirement from the FDNY in 1995.

Through the efforts of the Burn Center Foundation, Jim and his colleagues helped raise awareness of fire safety and improve the quality of burn treatment. They continue to aid the victims of burns, including many of our own firefighters.

Each holiday season, Jim would rally up volunteers - including Santa Claus on a Tower Ladder - to visit the children of the Burn Center and provide them with Christmas presents. Or have firefighters dress as the Easter Bunny to visit the kids on Easter Sunday. These were simple acts, but they spoke volumes on the type of man he was. Many of you have dealt with Jim over the years and witnessed the great work he accomplished first hand; I don’t need to tell you.

His legacy will live on and he will never be forgotten. Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. He will truly be missed.
