The UFA is pleased to announce that it has reached a tentative contract agreement with a total compounded value of 17.5% (17.1% salary
plus .4% in benefits). A summary of the terms are as follows:
- Length of contract: 4 years, 2 months
- Salary percent increases retroactively effective:
• 5%, 6/1/02
• 5%, 6/1/03
• 3%, 8/1/04
• 3.15%, 8/1/05
- New Hire Steps: similar steps salary rates as PBA PERB award for all firefighters hired after the January 2006 class, plus the 3% and 3.15% compounded salary increases on top of the PBA award steps.
- The RSOT agreement is extended for 5 additional years. Four additional 5-firefighter engines will be restored. (Haz-Tech Engines will no longer be counted towards the 60 engine companies that start each tour with 5 FFs)
- Health benefits contributions by the City increase by $100 per year
- Uniform maintenance allowance increase by $100 per year
- Loss of one 15 hour tour
There is no doubt that this contract agreement took a long time, but it represents two separate agreements which enhance public and firefighter safety with a 5-year extension and expansion of the roster staffing agreement and gives firefighters a wage increase we can live with, but still doesn’t compensate us for the dangers and risks we take every day.
The Battalion Delegates will be meeting on Tuesday, November 1st at 11am at the UFA, in accordance with the UFA Constitution, regarding the tentative agreement. Details of the tentative contract will also be discussed with all Delegates at the Special Delegate Meeting on November 10th at 10am at the JFK Ramada.
