UFA Safety Message #06

UFA Health & Safety Officer /Sergeant-at-Arms Bill Romaka wishes to remind the Membership to take their safety responsibilities seriously at all times.  We will continue to highlight and remind our members of “safe actions” as spelled out by the Department. Stay well, and stay safe!

The FDNY Safety Bulletin #76, “Speed Humps” states the following:

2.  DOT Signage and Markings …

  • Typically the advised speed will be 15 mph for a 4-inch reducer (speed hump) and 20 mph for a 3-inch reducer.  ADVISORY SPEEDS SHALL BE ADHERED TO AT ALL TIMES.

3.  Conclusion

  • Adhering to the advisory speed while traversing over speed humps will lessen adverse effects in the form of physical injury to members from dislodged tools and being jolted about within the apparatus.  In addition, damage to the apparatus could occur from excessive speed and possible loss of control of the apparatus.
**Please refer to the full Safety Bulletin #76 and familiarize yourself with its content. Also be aware that caution should be taken around Roads under Repair or Roads in Disrepair for the same reasons as above.
