Fire union big draws W's eye By Richard Sisk and Jonathan Lemire
The head of the city firefighters union was chosen by President Bush yesterday to serve on the national awards review board for public safety officers.
Bush named Stephen Cassidy, president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, to a four-year term on the Medal of Valor Review Board for firefighters.
The board was set up in 2002 to honor firefighters, police officers and emergency service personnel with a national honor similar to the Medal of Honor for the military.
Cassidy, a 16-year veteran of the FDNY, became head of department's rank-and-file union in 2002 and has been a recent vocal critic of the city's changes to the Fire Department entrance exam.
