The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation announced an important change to the 9/11 memorial Wednesday, as well as and a major boost in fundraising.
The Foundation, headed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, now plans to group victims' names according to the Tower they died in, or plane they were on. First responders, including police and firefighters will be grouped by their command, precinct, or company.
Co-workers can also be grouped together, but the name of the company they worked for won't be listed.
The previous plan, opposed by police and fire unions, was to list the names randomly.
The foundation also announced it has privately raised more than $200 million of its $300 million goal a 40 percent increase in the two months Mayor Bloomberg has been chairman.
