Queens Firefighters Save Dog From Burning House

NEW YORK (AP) - Firefighters saved a dog from a house in Queens Tuesday night that was gutted by a fast-moving fire.

The fire also spread to two other neighboring homes.

Firefighters said they pulled Shadow, a 12-year-old German shepherd mix with brown and black fur from the flames and gave him oxygen.

The dog was alone when the fire began at the Queens Village home on 226th Street.

Chevarra Delirio, who lives next door, says she witnessed the fire take over the house. She says the two front windows blew out and the whole house went up in seconds.

As flames spread through the structure, neighbors tried to extricate the dog. But the heat from the flames was too much.

Fire officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
