(CBS) BROOKLYN A massive warehouse fire along Cook Street in Brooklyn took hours to get under control. This afternoon investigators are trying to determine the cause.
Five hours after the fire started, water was still being sprayed on the warehouse located along Cook Street in the East Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.
Joey Verala works across the street at a sanitation repair shop. Varela told CBS 2's Tamsen Fadal, "I thought it was our shop. I said "oh no!" Thank God it's wasn't our shop, I'm sorry it happened here but there is nothing you can do about."
A man at the scene, who said he owned the building, was too distraught to talk. However, according to people who live in the area, the warehouse stores packaged frozen foods.
The fire department says luckily no one was in the building when the four alarm fire started. FDNY Acting Deputy Chief FDNY Pete Leicht said, "Somebody mentioned they store soda, bottles, cans and there is a lot of cardboard and the fire is deep seeded."
The fire broke out at 2:15 this morning, it took several hours to finally get it under control.
Over 150 firefighters were called to respond.
Leicht explained, "We try when we get to put it out from the interior, that's usually the quickest and causes the least damage to the building, but this fire was well underway when we got here so we had to pull the members out so that no one got hurt."
There were no serious injuries. Officials say one firefighter suffered minor injuries.
