Fatal Fire Caused By Child Playing With Matches

NY 1

Fire investigators determined today that a child playing with matches is what sparked a deadly fire on Staten Island last week.

The blaze last Thursday in Arden Heights killed two-year-old Jesus Bailey.

There is no word from fire officials on the name or age of the child who started the fire.

Meanwhile, neighbors are banding together to help the family.

Local resident Lee Falcone has arranged the child's funeral at no cost. She also decided to organize a clothing drive and collect school supplies for the children who survived.

"This community is really, really great," said Falcone. "It really moves me, especially all the women that are calling and saying, 'we can't imagine what it's like to lose a baby.'"

Anyone who would like to help is asked to call Falcone at 917-467-2743.
