A 3-year-old boy was killed when a Staten Island house where a dozen children lived was destroyed in a fire last night, police and fire officials said.

Seven kids were playing on the front lawn of the Arden Heights house and three were inside when the blaze accidentally started at about 7:30 p.m., cops said.

"The front door and windows blew entirely out, and there was flames coming out of the windows," said Michael Melley, 21, a neighbor. "The mother was screaming. She was saying the baby is trapped up there."

Neighbors tried to climb to the second floor to rescue the child from a bedroom, but the heat was too strong.

Firefighters "brought him out, and they were giving him CPR on the lawn," Melley said.
