Investigators were trying to determine the cause of Friday's fire at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
It broke out on the fourth floor of Building One late in the morning, when it was unoccupied.
Investigators say the building has been under construction and some of the work may have sparked the fire.
"The early investigation tells us there were some contractors doing some torch work at the ceiling level of the third floor. And we think the torch work somehow communicated to the building itself and expanded to the fourth floor without their knowing it," said Assistant Chief Edward Kilduff.
Six firefighters were hurt, with four being hospitalized with minor injuries.
