More than a dozen people, including firefighters and police officers, are being treated for injuries after an overnight fire ripped through a Brooklyn apartment building.
Flames broke out on the second floor of a three-story building in Ditmas Park around 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Dozens of residents were able to get out of the Ocean Avenue building and at least one person escaped by jumping out a window.
"As we got there, there was somebody hanging out the second floor window,” said Lt. Paul Driscoll of the FDNY. “And there were people on the sidewalk telling us that there were kids trapped inside. So we stretched the line and went into the second floor. Agent, Ladder 157 came up with us and forced the door and affected rescues of three children."
Fire officials say seven residents, including some children, were taken to the hospital.
Three firefighters suffered burns and were taken to a trauma center. Three police officers were treated for smoke inhalation.
As of Tuesday night, investigators were looking into what caused the fire.
