New York To Receive More Federal Emergency Communication Funding

NY 1

New York is about to get some more federal funding to upgrade the emergency communication systems for first responders.

The Department of Homeland Security is giving the state nearly $8 million, but it is not known how much of the money will be coming to the city.

Problems with communications in an emergency were exposed in the September 11th attacks, when police and fire officials struggled to share information and keep their personnel informed about the rapidly-changing events.
