NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The father of one firefighter who died while fighting a fire at the old Deutsche Bank building is planning a march and rally Saturday morning from the old building to City Hall.
Joe Graffagnino Sr. wants compliance with city safety codes, which he says have been ignored by government agencies and contractors. He believes the stronger safety codes will save other lives.
The event will take place at 10 a.m. starting outside the Liberty Street building and heading to City Hall. Union members and politicians will join him.
It will be the first time Graffagnino, a Brooklyn resident, will return to the building since his son's death.
Graffagnino's 33-year-old son, Joseph Jr., and one other firefighter died last August fighting a fire in the condemned building. Firefighter Robert Beddia also died in the blaze.
The building's exits were sealed, plywood barriers blocked levels and safety inspections were ignored.
