he city's fire department battled a fire for two hours in Tuesday's intense heat at East New York, Brooklyn.
The FDNY says a fire started in a laundromat and spread to a bank and another business.
Officials believe lint in one of the dryers ignited and spread through the duct work.
Damage is said to be severe.
"We'll probably spend like three or four days here, cleaning up. We'll probably have like at least a 60 to 70 man crew to clean up the bank," said an onlooker.
"I was actually washing clothes really. First I smelled smoke. And then, it started from like a dryer. It started to make an exit so I ran out. I called 911," said an eyewitness.
During the two hours needed to control the blaze, firefighters rotated crews so no one would be overcome by the heat.
Eleven firefighters suffered minor injuries.
