The Fire Department May 30 graduated 11 new Fire Marshals in a ceremony at its downtown Brooklyn headquarters.
"There are many bureaus in the FDNY that make this department great," Chief of Department Salvatore Cassano said during the ceremony. "But make no mistake about it, [the Bureau for Fire Investigation] is one of the most important we have because your work translates to life safety."
The new Fire Marshals are Ronald F. Darcy Jr., Kevin B. Kelly, Charles S. Guttman, Thomas M. Heghmann, John F. Kavanagh, Robert Santandrea, Anthony P. Torquato, John R. Orlando, Aisha Ricca, David V. Vitiello and Gerard M. Linehan.
The department also announced at the ceremony that Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Robert Byrnes will replace Chief Marshal Louis Garcia, who retired.
