A highly trained dog assigned to the front lines of the nation's war on terror was on Wednesday given the name of a firefighter who died on 9/11.

King, a black Labrador retriever, was named in honor of Firefighter Robert King of Engine 33, a father of three who was killed when the World Trade Center collapsed.

The dog is one of several trained by the federal Transportation Security Administration to patrol the nation's airports and sniff out explosives and other potentially dangerous substances.

King will be stationed at Kennedy Airport. He was named at a ceremony at the fallen firefighter's East Village firehouse. The firefighter's mother, Audrey King, attended the tribute.
