Mighty took two FDNY-related phone calls last week. Joe Burn, head coach of the FDNY Ice Hockey Team, called after the NYPD beat the firefighters at Nassau Coliseum:
"You were right, Mighty, when you predicted the cops would beat us, but the score was a lot closer than you thought."
"I called it 6-2 for the cops," Mighty told Burn, who works with 45 Truck in Washington Heights. "What was the final score?"
"The PD led 6-5 late in the game and scored an empty-net goal with eight seconds left. The cops won, 7-5. It was a great game. The cops won but the FDNY battled hard. We raised a lot of money. The attendance was 15,500, maybe the biggest crowd ever."
"I'll take it, Joe, a win is a win," Mighty replied. "With my brother Dennis a sergeant in Brooklyn (TD-30), I'll always back the PD. Better luck next year, Joe."
Up next, Pudgie Walsh, a retired FDNY Lt., who coaches the Brooklyn Mariners. "I would like to congratulate the FDNY Bravest Football Team. They beat us (Brooklyn Mariners), 21-14.
Pudgie has a message for his team: "The Mariners offensive line should stay clear of fast food places. My whole line is fat."
