1. MDA Week a Success!
A big thank you goes out to all the members and companies who participated, in the Muscular Dystrophy Association Week, for their passion, time, and dedication. Past year totals were surpassed by over $2,600. The grand total for this year was $21,041.
2. FDNY Shirt Drive for G.I.'s Injured & Back Home
For every soldier killed in action, 5 come home disabled and rehabilitate at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington DC. 'The Corona Tigers' (E-289, L-138) are asking you to show these veterans that their brothers of the FDNY will not forget their sacrifices - just as they have never forgotten ours at the WTC. The 'Tigers' are asking each company to donate (3) t-shirts. 'The Corona Tigers' would appreciate if each Delegate can collect 3 shirts & bring them to the next Union Meeting on Thursday, April 10th—to give to the Walter Reed Hospital as a small token of our appreciation. 3. FF Thomas Brick College Scholarships
The FF Thomas Brick Scholarships are available to all active FDNY Fire Officers & Firefighters. Six (6) scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded for the 2008-2009 academic year. To apply, complete & return an application to Chief of Department, Salvatore Cassano, by May 2nd. Applications are available on the FDNY Intranet or by contacting Katie LiVolsi at livolsk@fdny.nyc.gov or 718-999-2856.
4. NY Firefighters Burn Center Foundation Educational Grant Awards
Applications are being accepted April 15th - June 15th. Twelve (12) FF Michael Kiefer grant awards are being offered. Grants are available to active members of FDNY Uniformed Force only. In writing (typed) explain in (550) words or less why you would like to receive this award. $500 will be paid directly to School or Institution of the winner's choice. Include your present assignment (Company, Battalion & Division) with a contact telephone number.
