At least six people were injured, one critically, in a fire in Hell's Kitchen this morning.
Firefighters responded to the scene at around 7:30 a.m. Fire officials say the flames broke out on the fourth floor of the four-story building on West 47th Street and Ninth Avenue.
Firefighters found a man unconscious in the apartment where the fire started. Paramedics were able to revive him on the way to the hospital.
"We went upstairs. We had to force the door. It was a heavy fire condition," said FDNY Lieutenant Kevin Quinn. "Me and my inside team went inside and went about ten feet and we found a victim on the floor. We got him outside."
"We started CPR, everything went nice and smooth," said EMS worker Michael Melas. "We got all our treatment done and got him into the ambulance and got a pulse back after a shock."
"If we were there a little bit later, he probably would never have made it," added EMS worker Joe Hudak. "But everyone did a great job, Fire Department, firefighters, backup from Roosevelt Hospital. It just worked out. One of those days you're working and everything comes together. It's kind of a great feeling when you get somebody back."
The man was taken to the hospital, where he is in critical condition.
At this hour, there is no word on what started the fire.
