The FDNY will station a high-ranking officer at the fire-ravaged Deutsche Bank building until the complicated job of decontaminating and dismantling the toxic tower is done, The Post has learned.

"A battalion chief is there and will continue to be there until the building is down," a Department spokesman said yesterday.

Two firefighters died last summer battling a blaze inside the lower Manhattan tower that has sat vacant and damaged since the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

The City Council's Committee on Lower Manhattan held hearings on the dismantling late last month, and Chairman Alan Gerson said the long-term assignment of a battalion chief was one of the primary concerns.
