Granny Dies in Queens Fire

An 89-year-old grandmother died early Thursday in a fire that ripped through her Queens basement bedroom as she slept, officials said.

Verlyn Dixon was pulled from the fiery 222nd St. flat by firefighters about 2 a.m. and taken to Franklin General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.
