One person was killed Thursday morning when a fire engulfed a Manhattan apartment building.
The fire broke out around 10:30 a.m. at 12 West 103rd Street on the first floor of a five-story building on the Upper West Side.
Witnesses say the unidentified victim was found in his own home and pronounced dead at the scene.
"I smelled smoke, and smoke started coming through the walls. We started knocking on the apartment underneath us and nobody answered, but there was smoke coming through the door,†said a neighbor. “Firemen came and they busted open the door, and the smoke started coming out. And they said the man inside the apartment had passed away."
One firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze.
As of Thursday evening, the cause of the fire had not been determined.
