"Dear Friend. R.P. McMurphy's (1912 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh) will be hosting our annual Christmas fund-raising event on Saturday. As always, we will be collecting toys for sick children. Additionally, we will be raising funds to support the Terry Farrell Firefighters Scholarship Fund. Terry was a decorated member of Rescue 4/FDNY and Chief of the Dix Hills Volunteer Fire Department.
"This is one of several events held each year to support the fund, which was established in memory of Terry, who along with 342 of his brother firefighters was taken from us on 9/11/01.
"The proceeds of the fund are awarded annually to children of any active, retired, disabled or deceased firefighter serving with the FDNY or volunteering on Long Island. Since the fund's creation in December 2001 we have raised and awarded over $400,000 to the children of firefighters and various academic institutions.
