Three FDNY firefighters rushed to a bodega near their Brooklyn firehouse Sunday to help a cashier who had been shot and seriously injured in a robbery.

Firefighter Eric Szillus had arrived for his shift at Engine 227 in Weeksville just before 6 p.m. He was opening the door to let Lts. Richard Brady and Michael Dorkings leave when a passerby reported someone had been shot at a nearby grocery.

"He asked if we could help, and I said, 'Of course!'" Szillus, an eight-year-veteran, said.

He and the lieutenants, who had just finished their shift, grabbed medical bags and rushed to the store, where they found the clerk on the floor with a gunshot wound to his neck. The three Bravest worked quickly to stop the bleeding and clear his airway.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was in serious condition last night.
