Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta joined generations of Queens firefighters Tuesday morning to mark the 100th anniversary of Engine Co. 302 in South Ozone Park. The commissioner presented the firehouse with a special plaque commemorating its years of serving the South Jamaica and South Ozone Park neighborhoods and John F. Kennedy Airport.

"People came to the borough for a safe environment to raise their kids, and you, the members of 302, have helped them by keeping it safe," he said

Members of 302 and Ladder Co. 155, which also operates out of the firehouse, said they were grateful for the commissioner's remarks and from the appreciation they have constantly received from residents.

"I think we have a good rapport with the community," said Capt. Anthony Varriale. "Any time we're called to an emergency, people tell us how we're doing a good job."
