Tens of thousands remembered a firefighter's heroic final act during the September 11th terrorist attacks by running his final footsteps Sunday.
The sixth annual Tunnel to Towers Run re-traces the journey firefighter Stephen Siller made to the World Trade Center on 9/11.
Siller ran three miles with full gear through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, when he was not allowed to drive through. He was killed when the towers collapsed.
Members of the military were joined by firefighters from across the globe and, for the first time, construction workers, to honor everyone who was lost that day.
"It's all about goodness and resurrection and we can overcome this together, we the 9/11 family members," said Stepher Siller's brother Russ Siller.
"It's a celebration of every one of their lives," said another brother, Frank Siller. "They were great individuals. They were fathers, they were mothers, and they were brothers, sisters, and go on down the line. And we try to remember everybody and what they did that day. It's a great day."
"[We're here] to show support to everyone, the U.S. firefighters, to show that we're all together," said Chris Reynolds of the London fire brigade. "We're brothers together, really"
Organizers say about 20,000 runners took part in this year's race.
