Cypress Hills-WABC — Almost 35 school children are recovering from breathing problems after a fire broke out near their Brooklyn school.

Fire officials say the three-alarm fire started out at 134 Nichols Avenue in the Cypress Hills section of Brooklyn.

Thirty-three units were called and over 130 firefighters tended to the blaze that extended to two adjoining buildings. They are two story private dwellings.

Seven firefighters were treated for minor injuries and one civilian was hospitalized for chest pains.

At a school nearby, IS 171, at least 35 kids were being treated for non-life threatening breathing complaints.

Red Cross was on the scene trying to find a place for the residents to stay. Fire officials say the cause of the fire still remains under investigation.
