NEW YORK -- A three-alarm fire in Queens early Monday morning damaged several businesses including a pet store.

The fire was reported at Bob's Tropical Pet Center on 91st Street and Jamaica Avenue in Woodhaven just before 1 a.m.

Fire officials said 130 firefighters fought the blaze and pulled dozens of animals from the store. About 12 animals died and other animals including kittens suffered smoke inhalation. About 200 animals were in the shop at the time of the fire.

A tenant sleeping above the store escaped without injuries, but 12 firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation.

The owners of the store were in Pennsylvania when they received the call and came home immediately.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
