Three-Alarm Blaze Injures Seven Firefighters In Brooklyn

NY 1

A three-alarm fire in a Brooklyn warehouse Monday forced the evacuation of a nearby school and sent seven firefighters to the hospital.

The fire broke out in the basement of an old novelty company in DUMBO that was under renovation. P.S. 307 was evacuated as a precaution, due to the heavy smoke.

The Fire Department says the items stored in the warehouse there made the fire difficult to fight.

“The first floor showed some signs of collapse, so we withdrew everybody, and we tried to make an entrance from the exterior,” said Deputy Chief Vincent Mandala.

Firefighters drilled holes into the walls in order to run hoses inside.

Seven firefighters were treated for minor injuries.
