The head of the firefighters union blasted Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta during an appearance on NY1 Wednesday night, saying he isn't qualified to head the Fire Department. They are the strongest words yet in a running feud between Scoppetta and Steve Cassidy, the president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association. On last night's edition of “Inside City Hall,” Cassidy attacked Scoppetta for his treatment of the department's rank and file. When asked by host Davidson Goldin whether he thinks Scoppetta is qualified to remain fire commissioner, Cassidy responded: “No. We’re very unhappy with him. Firefighters have had it. They are disgusted with this leadership. They want somebody to step up and lead this department, and it’s not happening right now." Cassidy says Scoppetta's policies have forced the most experienced firefighters to retire. The FDNY says it is not commenting on Cassidy’s statement.
