Firefighters rescued four people, including a woman standing on the ledge of her burning apartment building, following an early-morning fire in the Bronx Friday.

The fire started in the kitchen of a second floor apartment inside a building at East 196th Street and quickly spread to the third floor.

FDNY officials say besides the woman rescued from the ledge of the building, another of the victims was found unconscious in his bathroom, while a couple was also rescued after being trapped in their apartment.

“We believe the two people that were removed from the inside of the apartment were husband and wife, and the woman who was removed from the ledge over the front door we think is also related to the family, but we’re not sure,” said FDNY Battalion Chief Tom Roach.

The couple was rushed to a nearby hospital with what officials call serious injuries. The other two victims were treated at the scene.

Authorities say the fire does not look suspicious, but an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause.
