One Killed In High-Rise Apartment Building Fire In Coney Island

NY 1

A woman was killed in a high-rise apartment building fire in Brooklyn Monday.

The fire broke out in Building 3 of the Luna Park Houses on West 8th Street near Neptune Avenue in Coney Island. Fire Department officials say about 100 firefighters responded to the 20-story residential building.

Investigators are trying to determine whether the sole victim, whose name has not been released, fell or jumped from a window.

Witnesses say they could see flames coming from the window of an apartment on the 17th floor.

“Yeah, I seen flames coming out of it you know, but the firemen were here pretty quick,” said one eyewitness. “You know, by the time I got here the firemen were already here fighting the fire and that."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
