A firefighter killed in the line of duty more than a decade ago was honored on Staten Island Sunday. The Volunteer Heart Ambulance company dedicated its new rig to Christopher Seidenburg. Seidenburg's family was joined by City Councilman Andrew Lanza to christen the truck, which was purchased last month with grants from the City Council. Seidenburg was 25 when he and two other members of Engine 24 in Manhattan died from injuries they suffered in a SoHo fire in March of 1994. "To have the privilege to see that this ambulance is dedicated to Chris, even after all these years, he is still remembered," said his father Charlie Seidenburg. "He was a guy who always wanted to be a fire fighter, always wanted to be an EMT, and he realized both those dreams," said Lanza. "He dedicated his life and, in fact, lost his life serving all of us" Within months of Seidenburg's death, the city began providing firefighters with bunker gear to help them withstand the intense heat they can face during a fire.
