Lifelong Staten Islander Christopher Michael Logan, 48, of Bulls Head, a city firefighter, died Saturday at St. Vincent's Hospital, West Brighton.

Born in Westerleigh, Mr. Logan graduated from Susan Wagner High School and attended the College of Staten Island, Willowbrook.

He moved to Grasmere in 1981, and settled in Bulls Head in 1992.

Mr. Logan worked for the FDNY for 19 years, serving most of that time at Engine Co. 158 in Mariners Harbor. For the past two years he worked at the Division 8 headquarters in Concord.

Mr. Logan coached his son's and daughter's soccer teams at St. Rita's School in Meiers Corners for about 10 years.

He loved watching hockey, and rooted for the New York Rangers.

"He was a hard-working man who was totally devoted to his kids, and he enjoyed spending his free time with them," said his wife, Jeanne.

On Sept. 11, 2001, Mr. Logan took his own van to respond to Ground Zero, arriving before several fire units, recalled his colleagues at Engine 158.

"He always took the initiative and responded like a true professional," said Firefighter John Giuliano.

His fellow firefighters remembered him as knowledgeable, good-natured and helpful, someone who loved to cook and was always willing to teach and help out junior firefighters.

"Whenever Chris was working, there was a sense of comfort, knowing he would give his all in a crisis situation," Giuliano said.

Mr. Logan was a parishioner of St. Rita's Church.

In addition to his wife of 25 years, the former Jeanne Imp, surviving are his son, Brian; his daughter, Kerri Logan; his mother, Cecelia Logan; two brothers, Timothy and Shaun, and his sister, Sister Kathleen Logan.
