Friends and family of firefighter Tim McSweeney, lost on 9/11, will hold a barbecue fundraiser on Saturday July 10 at the Carriage House, Fort Wadsworth. McSweeney was a standout for years in the Staten Island Touch Tackle League and the South Shore Softball Association. McSweeney was a gentle giant known for his easy demeanor and big heart. That's why his family and friends are holding the first fundraiser in his memory to benefit families who have children with special needs. "Timmy was always the first guy to help someone," said long-time friend and fellow firefighter Vinny Yorks. "He was a great friend with an enormous heart. It's going to a be a great day. All the proceeds are going to a great cause. It's our way of showing how much he meant to all of us." The event is scheduled from 2-7 p.m. In addition to the usual BBQ fare and refreshments, there will be prizes and rides for the kids. The cost is only $20 for an individual and $45 for a family. Anyone interested in attending or wanting to make a contribution can call Erin Eagers at (718) 948-0412, or make a check payable to Erin Eagers (McSweeney's sister) and mail it to 736 Carlton Blvd., S.I., N.Y. 10312.
