A two-alarm fire in Queens Friday sent six firefighters to area hospitals with minor injuries, including smoke inhalation and sprains, officials said.
None of the firefighters were expected to be admitted overnight.
The fire broke out at 11:55 a.m. in a fourth-floor apartment at 70-35 Yellowstone Blvd., a 21-story residential building in Forest Hills. Twenty-five units and 106 firefighters responded to the fire, which was reported under control at 12:39 p.m.
The Fire Department was investigating the incident as an apparent electrical fire, a spokesman said.
Two adults, two children and a dog were in the apartment at the time, according to neighbors at the scene, where the family was camped out in the building's lobby.
Thick black smoke could be seen billowing from the terrace shortly after the fire was reported. Only surrounding apartments were evacuated.
The affected firefighters were taken to North Shore University Hospital in Nassau County and New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens in Flushing. Copyright © 2004, Newsday, Inc.
