NEW YORK - AP - Two firefighters standing in the back of a fire truck were seriously injured when a taxi rear-ended the vehicle, police and fire officials said. The firefighters, ages 37 and 41, suffered broken legs and other injuries in the Wednesday evening accident, officials said. Neither of the men was identified. The firefighters were in serious condition at two hospitals, police said. The 45-year-old taxi driver and a 37-year-old passenger suffered cuts on the head and were in stable condition at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, police said. The crash occurred around 10:40 p.m. on Columbus Avenue and 71st Street in Manhattan's Upper West Side. It was not immediately clear whether the fire truck was stopped when it was hit by the cab. There were no arrests, and officials were investigating the accident.
