Breath of life from FDNY

Firefighters from Engine Co. 50 in the Bronx helped revive an 18-month-old girl who was not breathing last night, officials said.

Acting as first responders, the firefighters raced to the home on Clay Ave. in Morrisania, where her mother was clutching little Jade Colon.

An ambulance arrived at the same time, and Firefighters Jason Charles and Tim Healy assisted a medic in reviving the child.

"I turned her over and administered sharp slaps to the back," Charles said. "It seemed to dislodge something."

When the ambulance arrived at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital with a fire engine escort, Jade was alert and breathing.

"No way we were going to let her die," said Charles.
