Fire kills S.I. widow, 77

A 77-YEAR-OLD Staten Island woman died last night when a fire ripped through her home, officials said.

Helen Dire, a widow who lived alone, died at the scene after being pulled from her burned house on Fillmore Ave. in Willowbrook.

The blaze started about 9:30 p.m. in the first-floor kitchen, fire officials said.

Neighbors said Dire has two grown sons.

Dire lived in the two-story house for more than 45 years, neighbors said. The cause of the blaze was under investigation last night.Oren Yaniv.
