One person was killed and another critically injured when a fire ripped through a group of rowhouses in Queens last night.

The four-alarm blaze in Jamaica started just before 10 p.m. in the middle of five two-story houses and quickly spread to the other buildings, fire officials said.

The fire gutted 103-113 to 103-121 169th St. Neighbors said two of the houses were empty. It was unclear how many people were left homeless.

"The fire was just spreading and spreading and spreading," said Ophelia Green, 18, who lives nearby. "The flames were higher than the trees. Firefighters were still battling the blaze at 12:45 this morning. Officials believe the fire started in an attic. The cause was under investigation.
