The city is planning to sell five closed firehouses, ending attempts by neighbors and others to get them reopened, officials said. The Department of Citywide Administrative Services filed paperwork with City Planning on Oct. 4 to sell the five houses, former homes of Engine 36 in Harlem, Engine 212 and Engine 204 in Brooklyn, Engine 15 in Manhattan and Engine 265/Ladder 121 in Queens. Engines 212, 204 and 36 were shuttered in 2003 by the Bloomberg administration - controversial closings that led to years of protests. "This is the final death blow to 212," said Phil DePaolo, a Williamsburg activist working to save Engine 212. "How can the city sell this firehouse in Williamsburg, one of the fastest-developing areas of New York City? It's unbelievable."
