EAST RIVER DOG SAVED

NY Post

by PHILIP MESSING

Members of New York's Bravest became New York's Kindest last night when they rescued a frightened, shivering mutt clinging to a rock in the East River beneath the FDR Drive.

The members of FDNY Marine Company One were dispatched to assist the stranded animal in the water near East 59th Street at about 6 p.m.

After maneuvering their boat close to shore, Firefighter Thomas Sullivan spotted the petrified pooch hunkered on a rock.

Sullivan dived in and used a snare attached to a pole to grab the dog as a crowd on a nearby walkway began clapping.

"He was shaking like a leaf, but after a minute or two, he calmed down," Sullivan said. Firefighters are searching for his owner.
