EARLY GOP CONVENTION PROTEST

NY Post

by Stephanie Gaskell

The Republican National Convention doesn't begin for six weeks, but starting today, hundreds of cops, firefighters and teachers are expected to surround Madison Square Garden in a round-the-clock informational picket demanding higher wages.

Cops and firefighters have been working without a contract for two years; teachers have been without a contract for a year. "We are taking advantage of the opportunity . . . to underscore how poorly those heroes have been treated by New York," said Patrolmen's Benevolent Society President Pat Lynch.
