Thirty people were hurt, none seriously, when a smoky predawn fire swept through a Washington Heights apartment building yesterday.

The three-alarm blaze broke out on the ground floor of the five-story structure at 1352 St. Nicholas Ave., at 178th Street, before 1:30 a.m. and spread to the top.

Nearly 140 firefighters managed to get it under control by 2:48 a.m., the Fire Department said.

Twenty-three firefighters and seven civilians were treated for smoke inhalation and other minor injuries.
