Stephen J. Cassidy, left, a firefighter assigned to Engine 236 in Brooklyn, defeated Thomas DaParma, a retiree, to retain his seat as president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York, union officials said yesterday. Mr. Cassidy is finishing his first term as president. The ballots, mailed in May, were counted yesterday. Of 8,874 city firefighters eligible to vote, 6,676 cast ballots, with Mr. Cassidy receiving 3,668 votes and Mr. DaParma 3,008, according to the union's Web site. (NYT)
