RADIO AUCTION RAISES $12,700 FOR FAMILIES OF FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS

In the spirit of the holiday season New York radio station WAXQ-FM (Q104) raised $12,700 for the Uniformed Firefighters Widows and Childrens Fund. All day Wednesday, December 23rd, Q104 auctioned off 12 pairs of tickets to the hit Broadway musical “The Lion King”, with tickets going to the 12 highest bidders. Currently there is a one year wait for tickets to the show.

The UFA Widows and Childrens Fund provided more than $1 million in educational grants to widows and children of fallen firefighters. The radio auction took place less than one week after a devastating fire tragically claimed the lives of three of our Bravest.

Kevin Gallagher opened the bidding at 9:00 a.m. that morning, stating “It is extremely nice to see the support to Q104 and it’s caring listeners, as we mourn the loss of our brothers. We are very grateful.”

In the truest form of “holiday giving” one of the highest bidders not only donated the money but also in a heart-felt move donated the tickets back to the Widows and Childrens Fund.

Kathy Stinehour, Vice President/General Manager of Q104 said, “Once again Q104 listeners stepped up to the plate for this extremely worthy cause. While we were able to provide the tickets, it was our listeners that made this event a tremendous success.”

LATE FIRELINES MAILING

Due to an early deadline placed upon us by the printer because of holiday schedules, Firelines was set for printing at an early December date. Last minute insertions were made for an article and photos on the Widows and Childrens Fund Christmas Party. This issue should arrive shortly, after some further delays by the printer. Be aware that this time line was completed before the recent line of duty deaths, therefore preventing any mention of the tragedy in this issue. A special Firelines in memory of our fallen brothers is being published now.

POSTPONEMENTS ON MEDICAL LEAVE

Members who are too ill to travel to the medical office on their day to report while on medical leave and wish to postpone - MAY DO SO! You can not be denied the right to postpone if it may be hazardous to your health and well being. If you are instructed that “you can’t postpone”, our directions are as follows:

  • Ask for the ambulance to come to your home to pick you up, transport you to BHS, and then return you to your home.
  • If request # 1 is denied, ask that the doctor come to your home for examination.
  • If requests # 1 and # 2 are denied, inform the officer or representative of BHS that you “are postponing and will try again tomorrow”.
  • If you are really too ill to travel and you don’t want to worsen your medical condition, you can postpone again.
